Campfire Pigs in a Blanket Recipe

Southern Kitchen

Serves: 2 to 4

Hands On Time: 20 minutes

Total Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients

1 tube crescent roll dough

4 beef hot dogs

Yellow mustard or maple syrup, for serving

Instructions

Build a medium campfire.

Roll out crescent dough and cut into four equal pieces. Place a hot dog at one end of a portion of dough and tightly wrap, trimming off any excess dough. Repeat with remaining hot dogs. Place each pastry-wrapped dog on a long metal skewer and hold over the fire. Turning constantly to avoid burning, cook until dough is browned and crisp, 10 to 15 minutes. Serve with mustard or maple syrup.

About the recipe

Leave it to the ingenuity of the Girl Scouts to popularize the idea of wrapping a hot dog or sausage with crescent roll dough, placing it on a long metal skewer and browning it over the campfire. These can be served with mustard for lunch or dinner, or with maple syrup for breakfast.
