5-Ingredient Steak Sauce

Southern Kitchen

Serves: 1 cup

Hands On Time: 30 minutes

Total Time: 30 minutes

2 cups balsamic vinegar

2 cups Worcestershire sauce

1/4 cup ketchup

1/4 cup Dijon mustard

2 tablespoons minced garlic

In a medium saucepan, combine all of the ingredients and place over medium heat. Bring to a simmer and continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until the sauce is very thick and has reduced to one-fourth of its original volume.

Once the sauce has thickened, remove from the heat and let cool. Transfer to a separate container and refrigerate until ready to serve.

About the recipe

Many steak sauce recipes call for well north of a dozen ingredients (such as this recipe for “almost” Heinz 57 sauce). While delicious and balanced, we’ve distilled the process down to five essential ingredients for a killer steak sauce. You can always add salt and pepper, if you prefer, but the salinity from the Worcestershire sauce and the piquancy of the mustard should help alleviate the need for additional seasoning.
