Grilled Green Beans with Orange and Sesame

Ingredients

1 pound green beans, tipped
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
Juice of 1 orange
2 tablespoons sesame seeds

Instructions

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over high heat. While the water is heating, fill a large bowl with ice water.

Once the water is boiling, add the green beans in small batches and cook for just 3 minutes. Immediately transfer to the ice water to stop the cooking process. Repeat with the remaining beans. Drain the cooled thoroughly in a colander.

Heat a grill to high heat. In a medim bowl, toss the beans in the olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Place in a slotted grill basket and grill until charred on one side, 2 to 4 minutes. Stir the beans and continue to cook until charred on the second side, 2 to 4 minutes. Transfer to a serving platter, drizzle with the orange juice and sprinkle with the sesame seeds. Serve.


About the recipe

Grilling green beans brings out their mellow sweetness in a way that only direct heat can. Leave the beans a little crunchy when blanching, as they will soften more as they cook on the grill. Be sure to pour the orange juice over the beans while they’re still hot so they can absorb its bright citrus flavor.
