Cranberry-Apple Crumble

Cranberry-Apple Crumble

Serves: 10

Hands On Time:

Total Time:

4 cups peeled, cored and thinly sliced tart apples (3-4 apples)
2 cups fresh cranberries
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
1 cup oats
1/2 cup packed brown sugar

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease a 9- by 9-inch or 9- by 13-inch baking dish.

In a large bowl, toss together apples, cranberries and sugar. Let sit until juices begin to form, about 10 minutes. Turn into the prepared baking dish and bake for 30 minutes.

While fruit cooks, prepare topping. Melt butter in a glass dish in the microwave or in a saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat and stir in nuts, oats and brown sugar. Sprinkle topping over fruit and bake another 20 minutes, or until topping is lightly browned and juices are bubbling.

Serve warm.

About the recipe

This old-fashioned dessert is perfect for when apples and cranberries are in season. Or when you're in need of some Southern comfort food.

If you bake the dessert in a glass dish, you can re-warm it in the microwave before serving.
