A Moveable Feast: The best foodie events in October around the South

Autumn is here, and the South is ready for all sorts of fall feasts and food-related gatherings. As we do every month, we looked at dozens of foodie events across the South and picked the very best, starting from the top of October. Read the full list of our favorites, then grab a stack of napkins and get out there to see what's cooking and pouring in a Southern state near you.

St. Simons Island Food & Spirits Festival

Oct 4-8; St. Simons Island, Ga.

Coastal food and drink are the focus for this 5-day feast on the Georgia coast, where there are three headlining events for serious eaters. Renowned Southern pitmasters will prepare and present their barbecued foods at the FIREBOX event; there’s also the unlimited Tasting Under the Oaks outdoor beverage sampling which also has a farmer’s and artists’ market, a food tasting called Flights & Bites where chefs compete for your votes, a charity auction for a private dinner party for 12 prepared by a top local chef, and classes on cooking and cocktails, including one hosted by Eric Vonk of Richland Rum.
